Comics Worth Reading writes that it's been a year since DC announced the coming of Zuda (the site actually went live last October) and this July, Zuda will be holding the "Zuda Comics 2008 Invitational" sort of a supplemental contest to their regular monthly contest. It will feature 10 comics selected by "fan response".
Zuda is essentially another IP farm, like Platinum, TokyoPop (and Marvel and DC...) and now that it's had a number of "winners" I'd really like to see some stories on how the winners are faring and whether their experience with DC/Zuda has lived up to their expectations.

It's a good question, and I'd like to hear from some of Zuda's winners as well. I met the Timony brothers (the guys who do Nite Owls) and the High Moon guys at the NY Comic Con and they all seemed thrilled to be working with Zuda....perhaps it was because of the sweet location of the Zuda booth at the con- right in with the rest of DC's boothes.
Having been a competitor (but not victorious- my comic Super Seed finished 4th in April's competition) I can say that it was a really cool experience. Getting to cash a check from DC Comics was definitely a thrill. Zuda provided a nice launching pad for my comic, which I have continued on my own site and I'd definitely be up for trying again in the future.

I intend to get to the bottom of this by the end of convention season myself, X. I know better about myself and my workload to promise you an article but if I can get some information I'll be sure to pass it along to you for the consumption of the fine patrons of ComixTalk!

"Bayou" is still running at Zuda. "High Moon" seems to be drawing to a close ( I don't believe Mac is dead.). I don't follow any of the others. From what I have seen posted here and other places, Zuda seems to be losing viewers. In addition to following up on the contestants, it might be interesting to see what is happening at Zuda itself.
One of the attractions of Zuda to contestants is supposed to be the volume of viewers it draws. Can it sustain it's current level or regain it's past levels? Bringing back popular strips that did not win the first time is viewed, by me, as an act of desperation to draw viewers with declining interest.
By the way, does anyone know if "High Moon" will be continued elsewhere after it's run at Zuda? I thought that was the whole idea: build initial interest at the high viewer Zuda, then go off on your own and drag interested viewers with you. I must admit to being surprised that "Bayou" did not do that after their first sixty pages. Why are they still there?

You mean aside from the $27,000+ dollars Zuda has paid to the Bayou creators? I think the fact that Zuda is paying it's creators is a big draw. Sure, viewers are nice and I'm surprised Zuda's numbers aren't higher, but money talks, and where else in webcomics are you going to get that kind of deal?

Bayou(119), High Moon(41), Night Owls(41), Road(16), Pray For Death(36), Black Cherry Bombshells(13), and SuperTron(24) for a total of 305 pages.
Assuming (and you know what happens when you @$$-U-ME) everyone gets the same amount of money per page that's $88.53 per page. Not bad. It beats what I'm getting.
It's not quite what I would have expected though.

Ignore my post above. I just now see that the $27,000.00 went to the "Bayou" creators alone! That's $226.89 per page. Much better considering the exposure benefits.
