New Neil Cohn Webcomics

Neil Cohn is now publishing A Love Story at emaki.net. A Love Story will be updated with a new segment weekly on Fridays.

Cohn is also the illustrator for the new book: We the People: A Call to Take Back America written by Thom Hartmann. "Over the past half-year I have transformed [Hartmann's] writings into a 216-page non-fiction comic book. This book raises awareness about the pervasive corporate takeover of American government, and is bound to raise eyebrows with a call to return our democracy to the hands of 'We the People,'" said Cohn. A preview of the book is available at emaki.net.

Strip Fight!

Strip Fight: Each week, competitors draw a strip to fit a set of criteria and visitors vote on the best strip of the week.

Presumably, it's based on the always-entertaining Songfight. In Songfight, though, the site chooses the title of the competing songs. Strip Fight seems to be trying a more flexible route by setting "criteria," but they may be fixing something that isn't broken. Scott McCloud's Morning Improvs and Sam Brown's Exploding Dog both feature artists reacting to a reader-submitted title with great results.

But, since they've only just posted their first fight, we'll shelve the criticism and see how it develops. It looks promising so far.

The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman

These may be the coolest commercials ever. (Does it really count as a commercial when American Express only shows up briefly over 4 minutes?) Jerry Seinfeld and Barry Sonnenfeld are making webshorts about Jerry Seinfeld and Superman. They are a lot like a few commercials Seinfeld did a few years ago (Patrick Warburton does the voice of Superman again). The first one is up at the website along with some extras (don't miss the sing-a-long to "Oh Yes! Wyoming!").

Major 2D Webcomic Goes 3D

The popular, long-running webcomics adventure series Fans explores its more serious themes in an unconventional art style. This is the first time a major 2D webcomics series has recast its characters in 3D modeling.

With the ten-page story "Iman," Fans author T Campbell reviews the short, unhappy life of Tim the Fanboy. The story flashes back from his death to the trauma he felt as a young man with an Islamic background during the World Trade Center attack, his proud membership in the Fans science fiction adventure club, his alienation from his new friends and his descent into fascism. The major constant is his obsessive need for order and resolve.

Inktank Returning Tomorrow?

Allegedly Inktank is returning tomorrow. Inktank is the hub site for Barry Smith, creator of Angst Technology and other webcomics.

Every time you think you're out...

According to a note on his site, Jeff Rowland had been thinking about quitting his comic, WIGU, at the end of the previous storyline. He even went so far as to destroy the Earth, rob his extra-dimensional characters of their memories and draw a surprisingly poignant closing panel... but, in the end, he just couldn't give up the strip. Lucky for us.

I think I read too many webcomics. When he obliterated the world, I never even considered for a second that it would be, you know, permanently damaged.

First Time Convention Guest.

Well gang, I'm back from I-Con 23. Here is my account of what it was like to be a convention guest.

For those of you who have not been guests at a convention before I can say that I highly reccomend the experience. It was absolutely fantastic. I had a grand time and everyone was really great.

Also, J.D. Illiad Frazer is definitely one of the coolest people you're ever likely to meet. The guy just rocks.
