The author appears to really understand comics. S/he uses a definition of comics that I think she got from McCloud's Understanding Comics.

S/he's pushing two ideas:
1) Comics are uniquely appropriate ways to communicate current events in this era when the paradigm of objectivity in reporting lies shattered on the ground.
2) Comics may be a uniquely effective way to reach the masses with reporting too content-rich for the TV. If they wouldn't read it in long columns of text, they are more likely to read it in a comic.
