Giant Steps by Michael Levy

This 1981 2001 animation by Michael Levy to Coltraine music is cool. And it's from 1981. Wow.

Not a webcomic, of course :)

SPX Anthology for 2005

Along with APE and MoCHA, I think SPXPo is the most webcomic-friendly venue going. The vibe at SPXPo is artist-friendly and a lot of attention is paid to non-superhero comic book type works. (I'm not even sure if I've ever seen a Marvel or DC type at SPXPo).

Webcomic creators might consider crafting a print version for the SPX Anthology as the SPXPo crowd is probably a good audience to get your work in front of. Submissions for the anthology must be received no later than June 30, 2005.

Guest Gigs for Favorite Frankensteins

Jeremy: Just Turned Nine has been facing more than its share of deadline crises as of late. Creator and well-known oafish buffoon Jon Morris was reported to accredit the delays to "Get off my lawn, you sonsabitches. I will hit you with this bottle." Added the one-time Ignatz nominee "I usedta be a dancer."

Since the deadline worries for the five-year old strip show no sign of abating in the immediate future, Jon is making an open request for guest strips from the webcomic community.

Photoshop Sucks at Saving in PNG

I use Photoshop LE mostly (cause I'm cheap like that...) - it SUCKS at saving in PNG. Is there a plug in or freebie program I can turn native photoshop work into nicely compressed PNG files?

Survey of Meta and Fourth Wall Webcomics

Further on in the year we'll be turning to look at webcomics that play with the fourth wall, engage in general meta-messing with the form, structure and expectations of the webcomic form.

One of the articles will be a survey of the meta-webcomics we think readers should check out. We'd like to hear your suggestions for such comics (define "meta" as loosely as you want) to check out now before we write the article.

Just reply here with a name and URL for the webcomic.

Survey of Webcomics Created by Women

We're going to try a new thing next month - one of the articles will be a survey of webcomics in the theme of the issue. Next month we'll try and highlight briefly a bunch of webcomics by women that we think our worth checking out -

We'd love your suggestions to check out now before we write the article - just reply here with name and URL.

Hey The BoxJam Awards Are Back!

The webcomics community seems a little bigger these days then oh say 2001 or so. One thing from those earlier days that I just realized is still around is BoxJam's Award.
