Why make Webcomics?

I'm doing a formal paper on Webcomics for a senior Folk Art course and I need some opinions, concepts, quotes, examples from YOU, the expert on the subject. So, if you're feeling helpful, I've got a few specific questions - or if you're VERY interested, you can eMail me at <willl59@yahoo.com>.

1) Why make webcomics?

2) Do you feel connected to a webcomic community? (why/why not?)

3) Do webcomics reflect in some way upon this community?

4) In what ways do webcomics bring the community together?

5) What traditions do authors draw upon, and have webcomics developed any of their own, unique traditions?

6) Webcomics: "High" art or "Folk" art? Explain.

Feel free to add any tangents, examples, images, links, etc. THANKS!

Webcomic Creator Meetups - Tell Me Your Local Groups

I want to compile a list of meetups for webcomics. For example I know of the Washington Webtoonists and the North Carolina Coffee Clatch. There must be lots more. These will be tags in a future version of the site which you can apply to stories and forum posts so reply with more of these to this thread. Thanks!

Monday

So... how was that weekend for ya? I spent too much time reading about APACHE and DNS and how to use the BASH shell myself. (go ahead and say it to me: NERD!)

Webcomicy goodness? How about some cool weekend guest strips at PvP especially this one by Tyler Martin.

Restart? or Carry On?

Okay... well after asking around and after weighing everything I've decided that I'm going to do my comic with stick figures from now on... I was going to just change the heads and introduced the change with this comic.

but then some people said they liked the sticks better... and it would be so much easier and I kind of like it better myself... so I've decided... But there's still more to decide on...

I'm not sure if I should keep it continuing on the same site... maybe putting the first 50 (which are in the color style..) somewhere else on the site... or if I should make the stick figure comic on it's own site totally disconnected from Halley's Comic... maybe call it "Sticks and Stones" or something... though I bet that's taken... hmm... i'll figure out something...
but anyway the point is should it be it's own series? or not... it wouldn't cost me anymore... and I would probably use the old site as a base to make the new site... it wouldn't be too hard..

Should I do it?
