Review from the Archives: Man Man

Another superhero webcomic worth checking out is Man Man by Shepherd and Duncan.  We reviewed it about a year ago.

Fabricari's One Year Anniversary

Thursday, May 4th, is Fabricari's one year anniversary. As a webcomic, anyway. It started out as a daily, stream-of-conscious exercise, and eventually evolved into one of the most focused long-term comic projects I've ever worked on. It also became one of the most rewarding. This is largely owed to Adam White joining up to take over the writing after the first chapter.

Scott McCloud Speaking at U. of Maryland

Scott McCloud will be speaking Tuesday May 2 at the University of Maryland's Susquehanna Hall at 3:30pm.  Directions here. Campus Map here.

Joey + Joe Podcast

I finally got a chance to listen to the podcast of Joey Manley and Joe Zabel chatting about webcomics.  A little bit about Zabel's Introvert/Extrovert article, serialization, pacing and different genres of stories.  Interesting stuff (about 30 minutes long) from two knowledgeable, opinionated guys.

Comment Spam

Yesterday, my spam catcher, called Spam Karma, caught over ten comment spams. My blog is still new, but that seemed kind of high to me. In fact, I've noticed the number of spam comments increasing over the last few weeks. I was wondering why. Here is the explanation:

If you don't already know, the goal of optimizing your site for a search engine is to get a website on the first page of search engine results. According to Google, the popularity of a website is measured as the number of links to the web site. For instance, you might give more weight to a link from a generally well rated web site (e.g. Google PageRank). Indirectly, this makes your site more important. The importance of links inevitably led to the link farming business.

Webcomics Awareness Day

Webcomics Awareness Day is a day to generate broader awareness by the public of webcomics.  It's been picked up by folks running the website "Online Comics Day" this year so check the link for more details.

If you make a webcomic about ninjas you probably ought to read about the last authentic "fighting ninja" in the world.

Google has released a Windows version of Sketch-up for free (Mac coming soon).  You can print out models separately or place them in Google Earth.  It seems like this could be an excellent drawing aid.

In notwebcomics news, hurry before it's gone: a parody of V is for Vendetta called "C is for Cookie"

And I don't get quite so excited about PHP, but I thought this post by Ferrett about it was funny.

On hiatus

I am afraid that vir Bonus is going on a short hiatus (beginning last week). No new comic for the next week either.
