I've loaded up some logos I had from the archives of Comixpedia. Check 'em out here. I just don't have time to load individual comic logos but I would really like help with collecting logos from creator collectives, webcomic publishers and other brands connected with webcomics in some way. If you're the owner of such an icon or brand and wouldn't mind a little more exposure here at Comixpedia send me the graphic (or better a link to the graphic's URL) so I can load it to our gallery here (and use in subsequent posts).
Don't forget I'm also looking for creator photos for the site (these also get used in posts at this site).
We'll also be using these images for the encyclopedia at comixpedia.org.
Soccer is Full of Cheese is a comic with short archives on Comic Genesis. It's opening scene is at a soccer practice and the plot appears to be heading to some kind of crush/relationship between new boy Scott and soccer team captain Adrian. I checked it out for the title (short disclaimer: futbol is awesome!) and while it's not what I expected, it has its moments. Artwise there's possibilities there and while it's too early to weigh in on plot or characterization at least there's the sense that it's headed somewhere. A little more work on pacing and staging of the actual panels of the comic along with more consistent artwork and it might be worth following up on. There probably is an audience for soccer+manga+chibi+bi-shonen comics that is not yet fulfilled!
I think Beaver & Steve is already back to updates - just thought this placeholder image was pretty funny.Â
So Eric Burns has a handy post up detailing some thoughts on the New Fall Season at Modern Tales which marks new editor Shaenon K. Garrity's debut line-up. Here's the list of the new comics Eric hits on in his post:
So a couple of questions to discuss: what about the new line-up? does it change the "brand" of Moderntales.com? And what does it mean to creators and/or readers to be part of a site like this? As we head into the latter part of 2006 just exactly what are the benefits of such an umbrella site?
UPDATE: Related collective-type news; the Warren Ellis-led Rocket Pirates now looks to debut in September.
I had a great time at the beach and just got back today. I understand the new server held up ok until sometime yesterday - I'm working with the company (Liquid Web) to figure out if this is a workable server solution or not. If things go down, hopefully it won't take too long to resolve...
Coming next week are the Blank Label bloggers: Dave Kellett, Kris Straub, Howard Tayler and Brad Guigar. I've really enjoyed having guest bloggers on the site this summer and next week should be a lot of fun. Besides being great cartoonists these are all great guys. After that will be our last regularly scheduled guest blogger - Chris "Superosity" Crosby. I'll be shifting back out of summer vacation mode soon enough - one of the things I'd like some feedback on is about the guest bloggers we've had. Good idea, bad idea? Great for the summer or something to have all year long?
I also approved all of the new sites for the top list so you're on if you signed up last week. I haven't gotten a lot of feedback from the top list site so far so please let me know if it's been helpful, worthless, whatever. Thanks. (P.S. If you're on the top list and don't create an encyclopedia entry for yourself you're missing out on a chance to provide more information to curious, potential readers)
Also - thanks to new sponsor, the webcomic Krakow!
