Graphic Smash Relaunch

Graphic Smash has relaunched with a graphic design that may be ... um ... familiar. Tim and I will be coming up with a new design in the next few. I've found that graphic design is always a contentious point when you get a bunch of cartoonists together in one place, and I wanted to get this site running on the new server, using the new codebase, before delving into the inevitable conversation about design priorities. Ha! We'll see how that works out ...

One big note for cartoonists (I've sent this to the GS list, but I'm not sure if everybody's on it): if you have a comic on Graphic Smash, please let the new editor, Tim Demeter know if you want it a). made free, b). left alone, or c). removed from the site. He has the power. He has the will to use it!

Lost in Translation?

Jerry Holkins aka Tycho. So Penny Arcade has licensed their... stuff to a developer to make a Penny Arcade video game. Penny Arcade just gets bigger and bigger every year. I wouldn't be surprised now by anything they try to cross over into.

However, it led me to this recent Little Gamers' comic. I think although it's fuzzy that one of the Little Gamers guys decided Comixpedia was the most evil thing in webcomics back in 2004. Or something. I know we did give them a less then perfect review at one point and many, many, many of their fans told us to "sux th3r c0xors" (ah yes, the old days of anonymous comments here... don't miss that!) But what exactly is this one about? Is it that Comixpedia is all about money? (And if so why don't I have any of it!) They also mention Scott McCloud - maybe it's all about micropayments! Dunno really - what do you all think?

Anyhow, I think this is the third Little Gamers comic to mention Comixpedia - thanks for the publicity guys!

Sci-fi just got better

I don't think we pay enough attention to good sci-fi webcomics (That or we're all put off by the dreck from Keenspot) I really like the use of black and white here, like most artistic constrictions it forces the artist to work harder.

Guest Editors

Just want to pipe up and say that I enjoyed having different thoughts on the front page. Mind you, I just joined this summer so I haven't been here long enough to see anything else.

I would certainly consider making it at least semi-regular to help free yourself up from time to time, Xerexes.

Baltimore Comic Con

Baltimore Comic Con is coming up in two weeks. The con hosts the Harvey Awards, which is featuring a webcomics category for the first time this year. Master of Ceremonies Kyle (Plastic Man) Baker is going to be awarding the first-ever webcomics Harvey Award to one of the following:

PvP Nuptials?

It looks like Scott Kurtz has a few changes in mind for PvP beyond the site redesign (which is currently in beta testing). In the midst of a very romantically charged story arc, Skull has just fetched a small box for Brent. Kurtz has been openly pondering his handling of Brent's belle, Jade. Perhaps this is a result of those thoughts.

Animated 100

The animated 100th Nerdcore comic is up! I'm pretty happy with the results. I think the most fun I had was doing the voices.
