Holy Test Tubes Batman!

Boing Boing linked to this video of a talk from Professor Jim Kakalios entitled Spiderman and Conservation of Motion... Or What Killed Gwen Stacey. (Kakalios is the author of the book The Physics of Superheroes).

Is there a "magazine" anymore?

It just strikes me that the main function of Pedia has become that of a news aggregator where the readers are the information relays (or, the bloggers, if you'd like) . Which is great, and I think is a natural evolution given the new format, It makes a lot of sense.

But even if the idea of the webcomics online zine that is Comixpedia is still alive, wouldn't it be an idea to at least update the Magazine Articles list to reflect that a new cover art has been up for a while now?

Check Out This Week's Rockin' Comixpedia Sponsors

A big thanks to everyone who is advertising with Comixpedia right now including these three great webcomics:

  • [UPDATED: We are also now running ads from Things Change by Derik Badman]
  • The Front by Jerzy Drozd which is action-packed comic goodness is heading towards its dramatic conclusion.

  • A Pirate's Life For Me by Iain Hamp is a comic about a reality tv show where contestants compete to be a pirate captain.

  • O'deer by Joseph Grevelli is about what Santa's reindeers do the rest of the year. Yuletide yaks abound!

We're also being sponsored this month by Comedy Central's Freak Show which is a new show from David Cross (everyone knows who David Cross is right?) and John Benjamin (he had something to do with Dr. Katz)

This year we've been running the Comixpedia sites on a dedicated box so our expenses are a big step up from past years. So please check out our sponsors - they're often very cool people and/or products and by checking them out you help keep Comixpedia free and running (fairly) smoothly and me from losing too much money (which makes Mrs. X happy)!

Interview With Amy Kim Ganter

Broken Frontier has an interview with Amy Kim Ganter.

Up-and-coming cartoonist Amy Kim Ganter launched her online comic Reman Mythology in 2002 and has since contributed to the acclaimed comics compendium Flight. Her most recent project, Sorcerers and Secretaries, was released in 2006. Amy took some time to chat with Broken Frontier’s Neil Figuracion to talk about her comics, her fantasies and her upcoming wedding to Flight editor Kazu Kibuishi.

Did you know there was a Spawn Webcomic?

I didn't, but apparently Adventures of Spawn is online here. I'm not to hip on the layout, but it is interesting to see comic book giants slowly coming to webcomics. It looks like this effort is primarily to sell a toy line, but still, it's very interesting...

Makes me wonder if the long time webcomic veterans couldn't better help these established publishers usher their works onto the web in a better manner.

Farewell MacHall

I was saddened to hear of the end of MacHall today. In a sense it has been a long time coming, with updates becoming icnreasingly sporadic this year, but it does feel like the end of an era for me on a personal level. you see, MacHall was the very first webcomic I ever read.

I wish I could remember how I found MacHall, but it's probably something Bungie-related. I was a fan of Bungie's games long before Halo was released, and MacHall made me feel more comfortable about my obsession - plus the art was brilliant and the humour made me laugh-out-loud.

50 "comics" and counting.

Today i went to look over my site, chek that everything was alright, and that i hadn't screwed up some silly bit of code when i noticed i hit 50 today - meaning next week will be the six month anniversary of This is: - and on the one hand, i'm completely surprised i made it this far. I've never done anything of such scale before, or really stuck with anything like this. So far, i haven't missed a single update - heck, when i began i had a month of buffer most of the time. Now, i don't really know what the future of This is: holds.
