Ice Update (six pages)

Alright. The comic lives. Six new pages for Ice, containing probably one of the most written and re-written scenes I've ever done. Usually I don't even write my dialog down, let alone RE-write it, so you know this was a scene that was really tough for me. It was really intimidating to approach a subject as, well, horrifying as this one, and finally I decided to just bloody do it, and accept that nothing is perfect, it might come off wrongly to some people, but this is the way I've written it.

Home Stretch

So we're nearing the end of the first issue of Geoffrey Thorne's DREAMNASIUM and, so far, i have to say I'm pretty damned stoked by WEB COMICS NATION.

I'm getting what I think is a respectable number of hits per day with a slow but steady increase in "readers" (the first story has no dialogue).

I see absolutely no reason not to continue with this so, once issue one is finished and archived, and after a short break, Issue Two will begin on November first.

Tastefully done

Hello folks! I'm having a week off trying to nail this paid comic thing (I don't want to give too many details because I am already incredible nervous about it, and don't want to build it up any further than I already have), but so far progress is slow with a capital SL (it is so slow that the second letter is capitalised too). I think I am going to have to trick myself into thinking that it it's just a webcomic that I am going to give away for free thus instantly removing all pressure. Except, you know, I have to make it really good. Nuts.

Too many webcomics categories, plus update

#5 Order of ThingsStrips 4 and 5 have been posted since the last blog entry. New update coming on Thursday where your seppuku questions are answered! Because I know you had questions. And sometimes google and wikipedia just won't suffice.

We heart comments and I'll gleefully check your stuff out if there's a link in your name!

What Graphic Novels Are You Reading?

We had a pretty good thread back in 2003 on what graphic novels we were reading and I thought it'd be cool to do it again. Plus I'm always interested in recommendations.

I've actually been reading the Scholastic versions of Bone to my kids which is a lot of fun. I may have to hold off on some of the later ones as they're still kind of young (or maybe I'll just skip through a few parts). I also picked up a lot of comics at this year's SPX which I'm ready to jump into.

What are you reading?

Who to KILL at Platinum Studios?

For anyone who dislikes or doesn't trust Platinum Studios, they want to make a peace offering to you. Platinum Studios is offering a public execution of any of it's employees or big wigs. So if you hate Platinum Studios now you can choose WHO WILL DIE!!!

The (brief but) complete webcomic walkthrough

Webcomics are a great way to show off your artistic talents online. You can even make money with them, with a little bit of luck, if you do it the right way.

When I started The Flowfield Unity, I had experience in handling comics in print, but had absolutely no idea how to create and manage a webcomic. This article is my attempt to collect together everything I have found out through research and trial and error.

This article is written with a small press ethos in mind, that is 'if anything can be done, it can be done for free'. Hopefully running a webcomic may make you some money (though be prepared for the amount to be 'not very much'), but it certainly should cost you little more than your time.
