I Am The World's Worst Judge... But Here's Your BSC Webcomic Idol Final 3

I have been utterly lame at giving feedback this year during the BSC Webcomic Idol contest. And at this point it's down to three comics:

  • Lucid TV: an utterly brutal but often funny comic about what, dear god!, I hope is an unrealistic portrayal of most doctors.
  • Templar, Arizona: which is about a town and a cast of characters and is hugely enjoyable to read. Blame Thank creator Spike for not making it so simple I can actually explain it in a sentence.
  • Simulated Comic Product: I'm less familiar with this one but I've laughed at the recent ones I've checked out.

Vote, read. It's all good!

Make Mine Six Month Old Marvel!

HEADLINES

  • Dirk Deppey links to Marvel Comics new webcomic effort -- Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited as well as a USA Today story on the new site. The bottom line -- the site will feature 2,500 comics (nothing more recent than 6 months old though) for $9.99 a month, or $4.99 a month if you’re willing to commit for a year. Aren't these guys about 4 years late to the subscription model? Still it'll be interesting to see how it does and who becomes its audience (existing fans or newcomers to Marvel stories).

The Kid's Book Project: The End Is Nigh

Kid's Book Page

The Kid's Book Project has been pre-ordering since early this year. Quite a lot of people have bought it and there's only a few copies remaining to actually be sold. With a lot of stress the book is hopefully gonna get done and printed before the 11th December.

School Spirit - 500 Strips

G'day. Today (13th November, 2007), School Spirit published online its 500th regular strip.

The strip features a gaggle of Australian primary school children, focusing on the two boys Casper and Cody. The cemetery next door to the schoolground is inhabited by several spirits of different periods including a World War I digger and Wendy, a spirit of a young girl about the same age as our two heroes.

It has been four years since its inception and the strip has undergone a few major changes, particularly a move from black and white through grey shading and the into full colour. The original strips are now all fully coloured as well, which generally gives the entire archive a consistent colour scheme. The artwork remains relatively consistent over the period with the character designs of the first period very recognisable against the current style.

Capturing vs. Generating Comics

A good friend of mine who works for the company that produces Second Life sends over this link about using the Comic Life software with Second Life screenshots. I've expressed my displeasure with Comic Life before, but I haven't really thought about comic creation of video game clips before. Something about it rubs me the wrong way... And I think its the same issue that I have with why "photo
