FUNDRAISER! WOOOO!

Hey Everybody! Greetings from a cruddy internet cafe in the middle of nowhere!

Hurm News: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I love Indiana Jones and the previous movies—Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favorite movie. I love his confidence and capability. I love that these are modernized 1930s/1940s movie serials. I love that Indy is a skeptic even in the face of dramatic mystical events. I love that Indy has his simple flaws (snakes) and his major ones. But. . . .

Did some more tiny heroes this weekend, starting with two classic pulps:

And then one of Kirby's Female Furies. Now I guess I have to do all of them:

Famous Monsters of Eurovision

The Eurovision Song Contest was held this weekend, which means it's time to play Guess The Nationality Of The Eurovision Presenter! Ready, steady ... let's go!

Q: Which of these presenters comes from The Netherlands, home of legalized pot and Europe's number one importer of munchies?

FLICKERFLAME reviewed at BROKEN FRONTIER

Flickerflame by AL Schroeder

FLICKERFLAME, the superhero/antihero, the guy who thought he was joining the SUPER FRIENDS -- and ended up joining the LEGION OF DOOM -- was favorably reviewed in BROKEN FRONTIER's Daily Read today:

Writer Al Schroeder uses a similar tactic in everything from the marketing to the content in his super-hero webcomic Flickerflame. The results are peppered with references from everything from the Rolling Stones to the X-Men, leading to an equally engaging masterpiece, despite a few flaws. No stranger to comics, Schroeder’s roguish protagonist Lafferty (aka Flickerflame) was born for the webcomics, and Schroeder executes the character’s charm with ease.

Another interesting article from the early mists of ComixTalk time (our March 2003 issue) is T Campbell's article on Webcartoonist community. Campbell considers the extent of dialogue amongst webcomic creators and compares it to subcommunities in art, movies, etc.

I've also begun preliminary work on a potential article for later this year and I'd like as much help from everyone as possible.  It's a 100 Greatest Webcomics kind of article - the idea being something like a "you've gotta read these 100" before you die (or 100 to recommend to others to read)...  Make suggestions and argue with me (and others) over a draft list here in the new forums.

Rival Angels Review-The Scienteers

I just found out from Andrew over at The Scienteers that they reviewed Rival Angels!  Thanks Andrew! I was surprised but very appreciative.  Here’s an excerpt from their review: The story doesn’t just occur in the ring, out-of-ring action such as the roommates at home or on nights out makes the characters more believable as well as [...]

Payroll City Tales- Final

Final version of my new series, exploring the history of my hometown:

Click it for a bigger version. I had intended to do this all non-digital but by the time I was done with the mock-up I figured it'd be faster to ink the images digitally..

Blog Posts I Owe You

I owe you some blog posts. I still haven’t written up my LepreCon adventures, and here it’s been almost three weeks. CONduit was this weekend, and I skipped most of it, but got to meet (and converse at length, and record a podcast with) Michael Stackpole. Oh, and speaking of Podcasting, there’s a new Writing Excuses up, and it’s a pretty good one. I suppose this mention qualifies as blogging THAT.
