June's Fresh From the Festivals: Fortified with Vitamin Pixar!

Here's my latest Fresh From the Festivals review at Animation World Network, including my review of the super-incredibly-great new Pixar short, Presto, which opens with Wall*E next Friday.

And for those of you who may not have heard, Berkeley's Comic Relief is hosting a memorial event for Rory Root tomorrow. Check out http://www.comicrelief.net for details. I may say a few words if there's room for me on the schedule...

Webcomic Beacon #28 - Drawing Female Characters

Tanya and Aaron are on their own for the topic this week. They discuss drawing female characters! Certainly a challenge as it is not as simple as drawing bumps on a couple of straight lines. Really… It’s not.

Crying Macho Man geeks out and visits the 70s and 80s to pay homage to his favorite sitcom and cyborg.

Dr. McNinja Meets Blackbeard Jones, Esq

Dr McNinja

DEAD TREES
Bill Watterson is writing the forward to the first book collection of Richard Thompson's Cul-De-Sac comic.  Cool!

EVENTS
Chris Hastings will be at the Washington Street Library in Cumberland MD on June 28th at 2 PM to talk Dr. McNinja.  Double-plus cool: Dr. McNinja is from a fictional version of Cumberland, MD (one with a Zombie Defense System).  (I am totally making a comic called Blackbeard Jones, Esq now...)

INTERVIEWS
Rick Marshall interviews Jon Rosenberg about farm animals and beer.

TOOLS
The Gigcast linked to another make comics tool - this one's call Pikkipi.

Pretty Spruced Goose

Abstruse Goose is an xkcd-like comic (both in terms of subject matter and "art") that ain't bad (and it has the good sense to acknowledge and mock the similarities).  I saw it linked to from Wil Wheaton's blog -- linkbaiting WW apparently works pretty well -although I'm not clear on the red hat signifier for Wheaton in the comic.
