The Webcomic Overlook #46: Sequential Art

Catgirls: hot or not? Most anthropomorphic creations look too inhuman to be sexy. I suppose I have a certain amount of … well, respect isn’t the right word. Astonishment? Disbelief? … for afficianados who can look at a curious amalgamation of female body parts and snouts, jowls, or beaks and find it attractive. Yet, [...]

So looking back on it I find that I’m a selfish, arrogant, and disagreeable artist. I like to draw only what pleases me. I hate being made to draw anything.

Marry Me

Marry Me by Bobby Crosby and Remy Mokhtar

Chris Bobby Crosby's and Remy Mokhtar's Marry Me is almost done, climaxing with a not completely unexpected marriage proposal between the main characters.  This story of a pop star's snap marriage to someone in the audience is completely high concept but Crosby and Mokhtar made a really enjoyable comic out of it, filling out the two main characters pretty well.

Here's hoping Crosby does get a movie made out this story. Why not?  It's a good concept and would make a pretty damn funny romantic comedy.

UPDATE: Yes this is the same Bobby Crosby who seemingly exhibits tourettes-like symptoms everytime he posts on a message board.

Book recc'd: Skim

I just wanted to post and recommend book: Skim, by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki. I got it from the library and it's on my 'to buy' list, because I thought it was just about the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. The story was small and personal and special, capturing the sort of awful emptiness of teenage hood, and how you kind of try and grab on to people to anchor yourself, but how you don't really want to.

Another Platinum/DJ Coffman Update

Platinum Studios

DJ Coffman blogs more about his attempts to get some of the rights to Hero By Night returned from Platinum.  Earlier this spring Coffman blogged about shutting down production on the comic book Hero By Night because Platinum hadn't been paying him and other creators working on the book.  Coffman, understandably, has tried to be careful to layer his concerns within praise for Platinum -- he remains one of the company's biggest boosters online.  One wonders if Platinum will do the right thing by Coffman or just not do anything at all...

In related but better for Coffman news, his other webcomic Yirmumah returned to Keenspot this month.

On Saturday, Kate participated in the Fremont Solstice Parade, drumming for a belly dance corps. I got many a photo of the event, which is now up in my Flickr account. WARNING: Bush, tits and dong abound. Proceed with caution.

And speaking of fun events which get more fun with the more naked dong on parade, I bring to your attention the second-ever Seattle Area Drink n' Draw:

Feces, urine, copulation, vagina, organ grinder, Oedipus, jugs.

It took about fifteen minutes after the news broke about George Carlin's passing before I saw my first post declaring "Who cares, he hasn't been funny for twenty years."
