Goodbye Cable

Since I lost my job last month, we've been looking at ways to get by on less money. Since having a child last year, we've already cut most of our non-essential spending. So, now we have to look at our monthly expenses and trim the fat. Of course my wife and I disagree on just what is fat. To her, cable TV qualifies as fat. To me, cable is right up there with ESSENTIAL items such as food, mortgage and oxygen.

Taking Up Space is back

Taking Up Space is back after a three month hiatus. Give me a week or so to shake off the rust.

Jenny Has Six Brothers, Strip 11

Well anyway, Comicon is only a week away. At this point the only must see panels for me are the Steve Purcell one on Thursday (1-2 pm) and the Pushing Daisies one on Saturday (3:15 to 4:15 pm). Anyone want to offer odds as to whether or not it'd be possible to actually get in to either one? People keep warning me about this whole thing, but at this point I'm still not sure what to expect. I'm trying to imagine that very first convention I went to crossed with the first twenty minutes of Saving Private Ryan ... yet somehow I can't quite picture it.

OK... somebody make my brain stop hurting...

OK... So I just drank an iced tea with "natural raspberry flavor." As I drained the bottle, my eyes lit upon the ingredients. "Contains no raspberry juice." Now... somebody has to answer me this: What kind of natural raspberry flavor does one get without using raspberry juice? What the heck did I just put into my body, people?! Webcomic Wire - 7/16/08

Drawn from sources all over the web… Mindpollution.org has a post called ‘Wizard Entertainment: Fear and Loathing and Webcomics.’ FoxTrot does webcomics? BOOM! Studios launches a webcomic site. Heidi MacDonald digs up some Platinum hype. The Floating Lightbulb has also has interesting PS stuff. The Scienteers have some sad news about the robbery of D4K Studios and how you [...]

Could YOU become Batman?

Could you become Batman? You know, if you stopped eating donuts and got off the computer long enough to train and stuff. Boing Boing has an interview with E. Paul Zehr who wrote a whole damned book (talk about desperate for movie tie in money) examining the science of becoming a super hero.

Also on Boing Boing, Boom! Studios is offering free downloads of its backlisted comics.

Strangely enough... "Randy Lugar" is my porn name

Who's that dashing, distinguished man doing a cameo in today's installment of Capes 'N' Babes? Big thanks to my pal Chris Flick for a very funny strip! If you haven't checked out Chris' marvelous work, be sure to bookmark his site. He hits a number of comic-book and comic-book-culture themes that you're bound to get a charge out of. And his linework is pretty easy on the eyes, too, no? Now, if you'll kindly excuse me, I have to go register randylugar.com. Bow-chicka-WOW-wow...

stripShow 1.6.1 released

stripShow plugin for Wordpress

Hey everyone! I've just uploaded stripShow 1.6.1, which has a couple of bug fixes:

  • Fixed bug where initialization of storylines may take a while if timezone is not set under PHP 5.
  • Rewrote transcript code to be more tolerant of whitespace. In addition, equals sign is no longer required for non-character transcript tags.

If your transcripts were all messed up because of whitespace, this is the fix.
