Personal Victory

Today I officially paid off the final chunk of my college loan!!

And in a fitting coincidence, I was also treated to lunch by the school's alumni affairs coordinator as thanks for participating in their recent video promotion.

So now I can endorse SVA without the weight of debt! And if I can convince them to buy me another $30,000 worth of meals, we'll be totally square. ;)

I am $1.01 away from free shipping.

I don’t have time to read any long books. Other than that: help me out!

Not My Famous Diary

Delaine Derry Green's long-running mini-comic anthology series Not My Small Diary is asking for submission for the next issue. These always have a theme -- this time it's Meeting A Celebrity.

I got mine in first. The books are black-and-white, but that's an easy transfer from RGB to grayscale:

Life imitating art?

I find it a bit creepy when reality starts bearing a weird resemblance to something I've written or drawn. I wanted a character who'd lost a parent in 9/11 and, as a result, had developed a great hatred of Islam - even converting to Judaism. Muslims tend to accuse their critics of racism although Islam is a religion, not a race (so this is inherently illogical and certainly doesn't counter objections to things like doctrine or the behaviour of Muslims). To dispel such accusations, I made this character of African extraction and appearance.

Aren't they nice?

Latest Amazon/Booksurge thang:

The Amazon rep called up and oh so nicely said, with the new Booksurge contract -- and a total favor to me (I should be grateful, right?) -- would be wiping the accounts I owed them because of the older model of contracts they originally had with authors. Quote: "We'll start fresh."

This makes me wonder if they're wiping all these accounts that owe them money because of the right-hand-pays, left-hand-bills model they're using.

Letters from 20 years ago

My dad has apparently been going through a lot of old paperwork at home, and has found a bunch of stuff relating to my dental experiences in his archives. He sends it to me as he finds it; it's like all these pieces of an old puzzle coming together.

Squishables: I love them

So I’m minding the Blank Label Comics booth at Comic-Con, and this nice young man walks up to me with an octopus…

Thrift Store Find: Wood Burning Kit

At the same thrift shop where I found the old-school comics rack spinner, I found this wood-burning kit.
